Proclaiming Christ at the Iowa State Fair Parade!

August 12 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Parades are filled with joy, music, families, and celebration—but they are also filled with people who need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Sidewalks lined with spectators create a unique opportunity where conversations begin naturally and hearts can be reached simply, kindly, and intentionally. If you’ve ever wondered where to start in evangelism, a parade is one of the easiest and most welcoming places to share the gospel, especially through the simple act of handing out gospel tracts.

One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that God calls us to be faithful sowers. We are not responsible for results—only for obedience. “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.” — Matthew 13:37 When you offer a gospel tract with a smile, you are planting a seed. It may be read that day, later at home, or even years from now—but God promises that His Word never returns empty. “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose.” — Isaiah 55:11

At a parade, where people are already receiving candy, flyers, and handouts, offering a tract feels natural and non-intrusive. It’s a gentle yet powerful way to place eternal truth into someone’s hands. Parades create a setting where evangelism becomes simple:

  • People are relaxed and open
  • Hand-to-hand distribution is expected
  • Conversations can be brief yet meaningful
  • Large crowds mean many opportunities in a short time

In moments like these, we’re reminded of Paul’s exhortation: “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.” — Colossians 4:5 With just a few words—“Here’s something encouraging to read later”—you can share the message of salvation with dozens or even hundreds of people. Our confidence is not in our eloquence but in the message itself. The gospel is the power of God to save. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” — Romans 1:16 Every tract points to the same glorious truth:

  • Humanity’s need because of sin (Romans 3:23)
  • God’s love shown in Christ’s sacrifice (Romans 5:8)
  • The call to repent and believe (Mark 1:15)

Even a brief encounter can become a divine appointment when the Spirit uses the truth of Christ to draw a heart.

Many believers hesitate to evangelize because they feel unprepared. But giving out tracts at a parade is a wonderful first step. It requires no long conversations—just kindness, prayer, and willingness. Remember Jesus’ promise: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” — Acts 1:8 God delights in using ordinary believers who simply show up in faith.

There is deep joy in participating in Christ’s mission. When you hand someone a tract, you’re joining the work of heaven—inviting people to be reconciled to God. “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” — Romans 10:15 Imagine standing among fellow believers, praying together, smiling, and sharing truth as the parade passes by. It’s simple. It’s joyful. And it matters for eternity.

We warmly invite you to join us in sharing the gospel at the Iowa State Fair Parade in downtown Des Moines. Whether you give out tracts, pray, or encourage others, you are taking part in the Great Commission, come experience how easy and rewarding it can be to share the hope of Jesus in a setting where hearts are open and opportunities are everywhere. Let’s step into the streets with love, confidence, and the unchanging message of the cross—trusting God to bring the increase.
